Distillery Information
Old Carter Whiskey Co. is a small batch whiskey brand out of Kentucky. Its founders, Mark and Sherri Carter, have viticultural roots in Napa Valley. However, their love for crafting fine wines expanded into the whiskey industry. They’ve created relationships with distillers throughout Kentucky and Tennessee and perfected their process. The first batch was released in March 2018, and just 1,269 bottles were made. Subsequent batches are equally small, allowing for the attention to detail the couple values in their products. Old Carter Whiskey Co. is a passion project for the couple. Sherri even labels the bottles by hand. Each batch is carefully crafted and tasted, with new releases every few months. Consumers can sip on Straight Rye Whiskey, Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 12 Year Straight American Whiskey, 27 Year Straight American Whiskey and Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. No two batches are exactly the same, though the labels all depict a picture of a workhorse — originally etched by Sherri Carter herself. Today, Old Carter Whiskey Co. can still be difficult to track down due to its limited quantities and reach. As of Spring 2021, only Kentucky, California, DC, New York, New Jersey, Georgia and Louisiana carried the desirable brand. Prices range from $150 to over $500 per bottle, but the cost stands up to the hype. Well-balanced, sweet and a little spicy, Old Carter Whiskey Co. has already assembled a following of devoted drinkers.
